Phoenix Youth Center News
Welcome to the Phoenix Youth Center Update!
September 2007
It is that time of year again; time to start thinking about fall sports, cooler weather and of course HOMEWORK. That is where the Phoenix Youth Center comes in. We offer many different programs for students from 3rd – 9th grade.
Here at the Phoenix Youth Center, we offer a Homework Club everyday after school. This programs begins MONDAY, SEPTMEBER 10. Permission slips must be filled out prior to coming to the center. Permission slips can be picked up at your school office or downloaded from our site at www.phoenixyouthcenter.com.
Students attending Forge Rd Elementary will ride bus # 130 to Pine St. Elementary and students who attend Northside Elementary will ride bus #114 to Pine St. Elementary. When the students get to Pine St., they will then walk directly to the Phoenix Center which is located in the lower level of the Municipal Building. All Middle School students will walk from the school to the Center and follow the same procedures.
Upon arrival, they will check in with a staff member, and have a snack while they are doing their homework. There are always two to four staff members to help the students with homework. We guide the students with their homework and give them extra support when needed. When they are finished, they are expected to call for a ride, and then read a book until their ride arrives. We are expecting high numbers this year, so we are asking that all students be picked up in a timely manner.
Due to the fact that we are a non-profit organization, we ask that all families donate snacks and drinks when needed (about once a month). We also ask that everyone participate in the fundraisers that we have during the year. The only way for us to offer free service is to raise money through fundraising.
Other programs we offer are the Recreation Center and new this year is Tuesday night Youth Fellowship lead by Gravel Hill Youth Director Trevor Lightner. This program is from 6:00- 7:00. We also have Recreation Center during the week. This runs Monday – Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30. This is a time for your child to come and hang out with their friends. We have a low cost snack bar, video games, projection TV, ping pong, pool, foose ball and many board and card games.
We believe that when the Phoenix Staff, the schools and the parents work together, your child will have a successful school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
